2012: Polar Shift. Many believe that the year 2012 will bring about the next polar shift. Basically, it is expected for the North and South Pole to change places. If you are looking for a scientific explanation for this occurrence, it would be that the Earth will start to rotate in the opposite direction as a result of some unknown catastrophic event.
Some hold to the belief that earths rotation is not stable. Others say it is.
History may provide clues into what can happen during the shift through ancient manuscripts and other writings.
Basically, what can be described as nothing short of Armageddon is thought to happen. Life as we know it will not exist.
Earths core is solid with magma that surrounds it. On top of the magma is the crust. The magma is a rotating layer that creates our magnetic field and receives its energy from the sun.
Over a period of two thousand years, some people believe that a 60% decrease in the magnetic field has occurred.
If this is true, there will not be many more decades without a pole shift. No one exactly knows how this will happen or what the hazards will be. The Maya and Egyptians might have been the only ones to understand this all too well.
When looking into Mayan beliefs, the reason for the reversal can be constructed.
A lightning strike could cause a reversal of poles. It may seem incomprehensible to most how this could happen; but, when a magnet is struck by lightning, it causes a reverse in the magnets field.
Like a magnet, the Earth has poles as well. If something were to cause a short circuit in the field, the poles might shift.
What kind of beam would cause this shift? A beam from our sun can. Every once in awhile, our sun reaches a certain point. When that point is reached, the sun reverses itself. Clouds of plasma are thrown out into the universe accompanied by a shockwave of material that will reach our planet. At this point, the polar shift will start.
If it is strong enough, a short circuit in the magnetic field would result.
Scientists can cause the poles of a magnet to change by firing large amounts of particles at the magnet. These particles get caught in the magnetic field and form a ring stream. As the stream increases in speed, the poles of the magnet reverse.
The experiment performed by the scientist could be applied, on a much larger to scale, to the Earth. When a solar storm occurs, the earths magnetic field compresses and gains velocity for a brief period of time.
Since particles from the sun carry the a magnetic charge, they would align with the magnetic field on earth. At the equator, particles would create a ring stream.
The ring stream would build a magnetic field stronger than our own. It would take a solar flare hundreds times bigger than we have ever seen to create this effect.
This seems to be the point where scientists start to disagree on what will happen. Some believe this will cause a polar shift while others do not.
If the poles do shift, expect enormous destruction. Some people believe they need to be prepared for this. Given the facts it may be a good idea.
